The Spring Festival Of 2025 Is Coming
The Spring Festival originated from the ancient year-end prayers and sacrificial activities. This sacrificial activity was originally a primitive religious ritual. People held sacrificial activities at the beginning of the year to pray for prosperity and good harvests for people and livestock in the coming year. Over time, these sacrificial activities gradually evolved into various celebrations, and eventually formed today's Spring Festival.
The history of the Spring Festival can be traced back to the Shang Dynasty, when people would worship gods and ancestors at the end of the year. Legend has it that there was a custom of celebrating the Spring Festival during the Yao and Shun periods. In ancient times, different dynasties had different calendars, so the date of the Spring Festival was not fixed. It was not until the Han Dynasty that Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty issued an edict to promote the Taichu calendar, clearly stipulating that the first day of the first lunar month was the beginning of the year. Since then, the first day of the first lunar month in the Xia calendar has become a fixed Spring Festival date.
The celebrations of the Spring Festival are rich and colorful, including drinking Laba porridge, worshiping the Kitchen God, sweeping the dust, pasting Spring Festival couplets, pasting New Year pictures, pasting the word "Fu" upside down, staying up late on New Year's Eve, eating dumplings, giving lucky money, paying New Year's greetings, visiting temple fairs, etc. These activities are mainly about worshipping ancestors, praying for grace, family reunion, bidding farewell to the old and welcoming the new, greeting the new year, and praying for a good harvest, and have strong national characteristics.
On December 4, 2024, the Spring Festival was listed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, further enhancing the global influence of the Spring Festival and making it an important festival in the world.
